“Politicians empower drug dealers” – President

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena says those against the prevention of extremist terrorist movements, are engaged in attempts to introduce laws in Parliament against the death penalty.

The Head of State speaking at a function in Kurunegala said certain politicians are strengthening drug racketeers.

The President questioned why members of parliament were in a hurry to abolish the death penalty adding there had been a common opinion among the people, that after the April 21st terrorist attacks, the country needed new laws and regulations, against the formation of more terrorist groups.

President Sirisena noted although it had been one of the most talked about topics in the country, legislation pertaining to anti-terror activities had not materialized after the lapse of three and a half months in parliament.

The Head of State claimed politicians empowered drug dealers and who in turn controlled the politicians through money.

President Sirisena stressed it was a complex business and therefore claimed that he will fight against the corrupt.
