‘Esala’ Perahera commences from today

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Security is being increased for the Kandy ‘Esala’ Perahera, which commences from today onwards (02) with the deployment of Army and Police Personnel.

‘Esala’ Perahera commenced with the traditional ‘Kap’ planting ceremony at the auspicious time of 5.10 this morning at ‘Sathara Devale’ in Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.

Five ‘Devala’ processions will be held subsequent to the ‘Kap’ planting ceremony. The first ‘Kumbal’ Perahera will parade the streets on 05 August and will continue till 09 August.

‘Randoli’ Perahera will parade the streets from 10-14 August.

A day procession will be held on 15 August and a ‘Perahera Sandeshaya’ informing that the Esela Perahera was successfully completed will be handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena by the Chief Custodian of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Pradeep Nilanga Dela at the President’s House in Kandy.
