No evidence to back allegations against Dr. Shafi – CID

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Wednesday (24) informed the the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) investigating the Easter Sunday attacks that there is no evidence to back the allegations against Dr. Seigu Siyabdeen Mohammed Shafi.

Director of CID, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shani Abeysekera informed the PSC that there is no evidence to prove that Dr. Shafi performed illegal sterilisation surgeries or has links to terrorist activities.

The CID had recorded statements from Doctors and Nurses who assisted Dr. Shafi during caesarean surgeries he had carried out, and none of them claimed that the Doctor in question had done any illegal activity during the surgeries.

The CID has already informed Court in this regard, Abeysekera informed the PSC.

Dr. Shafi was initially arrested over allegedly accumulating assets via illegal means.
