SLMC ordered to register all foreign graduates

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Supreme Court has ordered the Sri Lanka Medical Council to allow all students who obtain a medical degree from recognized universities and passed the SLMC examinations to practice in the country.

The order was issued after fundamental rights petitions filed by 16 foreign degree holders were taken up for hearing today.

The petitioners claim that the Sri Lanka Medical Council refused to allow them to practice in the country, despite having passed the SLMC examination.

The petitions were heard before Supreme Court Justices Prasanna Jayawardene, LTB Dehideniya and Murdu Fernando.

Accordingly the bench ordered the SLMC to register the degree holders who passed the SLMC exam.

UTV News Court correspondent said the SLMC was also ordered to complete registrations within 30 days from today.
