Dr. Shafi’s FR petition moved to Aug. 06

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Supreme Court ordered to move the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition to 06 August which was filed by Dr. Seigu Siyabdeen Mohammed Shafi, alleging that the allegations levelled against him were false.

Dr. Shafi has sought the intervention of the Supreme Court to dismiss the allegations against him and order his release from detention.

He was initially arrested over allegedly accumulating assets via illegal means.

The petition, filed on behalf of Dr. Shafi, stated that the charges including sterilisation allegations were a result of personal dispute which followed from a purchasing of land in Kurunegala.
