Devotees restricted from entering ‘Maha Maluwa’

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Devotees will not be allowed to enter the ‘Maha Maluwa’ or the Great Terrace at the Temple of the Tooth Relic during this year’s Kandy Esela Perahera.

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga said the decision was reached and will be enacted as one of several steps under a special security plan.

He stressed security has been tightened by the Police and the Tri-Forces and all devotees will be subjected to inspections to ensure the safety of the Public.

Nilanga further the decision to prevent persons from entering the Great Terrace was reached with the objective of ensuring the safety of the Temple of the Tooth and to allow for the smooth conduct of the Perahera.

He also requested all devotees to protect and safeguard the environment when viewing the Perahera.
