“The public must accept diversity” – Lakshman Kiriella

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Minister Lakshman Kiriella says certain groups are engaged in efforts to obtain political power by creating ethnic tensions.

Speaking at a function in Kandy the Minister said people should accept diversity.

The Minister said if a country is to develop, there must be unity among people.

Post-independence, Minister Kiriella noted the first step that leaders of states like Malaysia and Singapore took was to resolve differences between its people, following which they diverted all their time towards economic development.

Minister Lakshman Kiriella added unfortunately for Sri Lanka, politicians used these differences to rise to political power.
