(UTV|COLOMBO) – Members of a number of Teachers’ and Principals’ unions will be on sick leave today and tomorrow. A two-day sick note campaign will be get underway today at all schools in the country.
Secretary of the Sri Lanka Government Teachers Association Shehan Dissanayake, speaking to a prominent online news portal in the isle, said the trade union action is being launched based on four key demands including a solution to salary anomalies of teachers and principals.
However members of 27 other unions have decided against backing the sick note campaign.
Speaking to a prominent online news portal, the General Secretary of the Ceylon’s Teachers’ Services Unions Mahinda Jayasinghe said majority of teachers and principals will boycott the union action, and therefore expects the conduct of academic activities without any major disruption during the course of the day.
Meanwhile issuing a notice, Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the government has resolved numerous issues faced by the teachers and pledged to provide a durable solution to issues surrounding salary anomalies.
The Minister said steps have been taken to provide a permanent solution to the salary anomalies of teachers and principals.
