Tarantino’s “Once Upon” targets USD 30 million debut

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Quentin Tarantino’s highly anticipated “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is reportedly on track for an opening weekend between $28-30 million when it hits cinemas on July 26th.

That estimate could be on the softer side of expectation with some suggesting the Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt-led movie could go as high as $50 million in its inaugural weekend. Sony Pictures is distributing the $90 million budgeted film.

Tarantino’s biggest launch to date is “Django Unchained” with $38 million, but the film could well have a good run in cinemas should the great notices out of Cannes continue with a wider audience. His most recent film, “The Hateful Eight,” opened to $15 million.

The story follows a washed-up TV actor and his stunt double and majordomo who are struggling to find their place in a changing Hollywood. Margot Robbie portrays their next door neighbor, Sharon Tate, the up-and-coming actress who was murdered at the hands of Charles Manson and his followers. Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, Kurt Russell, Lena Dunham and the late Luke Perry also star.
