Dr. Shafi files FR petition challenging allegations

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Dr. Seigu Siyabdeen Mohammed Shafi on Tuesday (25) filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition in the Supreme Court alleging that the allegations levelled against him were false.

Dr. Shafi has sought the intervention of the Supreme Court to dismiss the allegations against him and order his release from detention.

He was initially arrested over allegedly accumulating assets via illegal means.

The petition, filed on behalf of Dr. Shafi, stated that the charges including sterilisation allegations were a result of personal dispute which followed from a purchasing of land in Kurunegala.
