4 arrested with 96,600 illegal cigarettes at BIA

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Four Sri Lankans have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for attempting to smuggle a stock of cigarettes worth Rs.5.3 million into the country.

Our Airport Correspondent said a total of 96,600 cigarette sticks were found in the possession of the suspects.

The individuals are residents if Chillaw and Wennappuwa.

The suspects had attempted to smuggle the stock of cigarettes by concealing it in their travel luggage.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Airport Customs.
