Housing program to get international assistance

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Minister Sajith Premadasa says the national housing program will be taken forward with international assistance.

Speaking during an event in Colombo, Minister Premadasa said through international support the government is aiming to build 20,000 model villages by 2020.

The Minister stated the government will undertake projects under four phases with the aim of implementing the “Samata Sevanak” programme, to provide housing for all citizens.

Minsiter Premadasa noted that 2,500 villages will be built in the first stage, 5,000 villages will be built in the second stage, 10,000 villages will be built in the third stage and 2,500 villages will be built in the fourth and final stage with complete amenities and will be handed over to the public by 2025.

Minister Sajith Premadasa added that the present administration has allocated the largest funds ever by a government in the history of Sri Lanka, for housing development projects.
