Presidential Election: Demand for candidates

(UTV|COLOMBO) – United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Janaka Wakkumbura says the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will nominate a strong individual who will not be swayed by various opinions as the next Presidential Candidate.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal, MP Wakkumbura said the Head of State should be a unifying figure who is able to take definitive decisions.

The MP stressed it was essential to have a President who can lead the country in the right direction and works only based on his own opinion and judgement adding a country could not move forward a according to the wishes of different people.

MP Wakkumbura added the SLPP will appoint a leader who will be responsible to the government and will treat all persons equal at the next election.

Meanwhile, United National Party Parliamentarian Hesha Withanage says the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna are in search of a common Presidential Candidate to end the power struggle between the two factions.
