Showers and winds to enhance further

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Showery and windy conditions are expected to enhance further particularly in the South-Western part, as the South-West monsoon has been established over the island.

Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at times on Saturday (08) in Western, Southern, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western Province, the Department of Meteorology stated.

Heavy falls about 100 – 150 millimetres can be expected at some places, particularly in Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara, Gampaha, and Kegalle Districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere over the island, the Met. Department stressed, adding that fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kilometres per hour are also likely over the country, particularly in Western slope of the central hilly areas and Northern, North-Central and Uva Province and in Puttalam, Ampara and Batticaloa Districts, while strong winds up to 60 kilometres per hour are also likely over the Jaffna District and Pottuvil area.
