Prioritise environmental preservation- President

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena says if the country fails to prioritise environmental preservation the country will be transformed into a desert over the next 15-20 years.

Speaking during an event in Kandy President Sirisena requested the public to be sensitive towards the changes of the environment and ensure its preservation by protecting wildlife, fauna and flora.

The Head of State noted the country’s forest density that is currently at 28% is gradually decreasing annually by 1.5%.

Therefore President Maithripala Sirisena requested all factions to be committed towards preserving the environment for the country’s future generation.
