Ban on sale of single cigarettes to be approved

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Health says it will today present the cabinet paper to the Cabinet of Ministers that includes the rules and regulations which prohibits the sale of single cigarettes.

The Ministry said Minister of Health Rajitha Senarathne signed the Cabinet paper in this regard yesterday.

Minister Senaratne also said a 47 per cent decline in smoking has been recorded due to the measures taken by the present government to discourage smoking.

He said the government has to incur an expense of 72 billion rupees annually to treat those who fall ill due to smoking.
