Met. Dept. forecasts monsoon rainfall in Sri Lanka

(UTV|COLOMBO) – South-West monsoon conditions are getting established gradually over the island. Therefore, showery and windy conditions are expected to enhance over the island, particularly in the South-Western part from tonight (03), the Department of Meteorology stated.

Showers will occur at times in Western, Southern, Central, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces, and in Jaffna District, while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere particularly in the evening.

Furthermore, heavy falls about 100 millimetres can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western and North-Western Provinces, and in Galle and Matara Districts, the Met. Department stressed, adding that the fairly heavy falls above 50 millimetres can be expected at some places in Eastern and Uva Provinces.

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 40 – 50 kilometres per hour are also likely over the country, particularly around the central hilly areas.
