Passports, NICs among recoveries in past 48-hours – Army

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Army Troops, assisted by Policemen in the past 48-hours ending Monday noon (27) went ahead with search and clear operations in the general areas of Maningala, Nattandiya, Welipenna, Porutota, Kochchikade, Narahenpita, Periyamulla, Kalpitiya, Madampe, Modera, Puwakpitiya, and Mattegoda areas and recovered a haul of suspicious items, including 154 passports, 7 shotgun cartridges, 5 shotgun empty cartridges, 1 weapon binocular, 3 Army uniforms, 2 swords, 20 kilogrammes of Magnesium Sulphate, 64 National Identity Cards (NICs), 1 combat uniform, 135 CDs with the National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ) literature, 4 suspicious three-wheelers with forged number plates, 4 motor bicycles, 4 satellite phones, 26 mobile phones, ammunition rounds, 17 kilogrammes of Mawa drugs and knives.

During those search operations, Policemen apprehended 39 suspects and took them to the nearest Police Stations for further investigations.
