Six persons engaged in fishing using unauthorised nets held by Navy

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Naval personnel held 6 persons for engaging in illegal fishing in the seas off Gurukanda area, Mullaitivu on Saturday (25).

A group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a routine patrol, held these 06 persons who engaged in fishing using unauthorized fishing nets in the seas off Gurukanda.

The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Kalpitiya. Along with the suspects 01 dinghy, 01 outboard motor (OBM) and a 450m long unauthorized fishing net were taken into naval custody.

The 02 suspects together with the seized dinghy, OBM, unauthorized net and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Mullaitivu for onward action.
