“No UN Troops in Sri Lanka,” State Defence Min. clarifies

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Government of Sri Lanka on Saturday (26) reaffirmed that the United Nations (UN) has not deployed Military Personnel for service in peace operations in Sri Lanka.

Social media reports widely speculated that the UN Troops were in Sri Lanka after UN military convoy were seen on the streets of Colombo.

Non-Cabinet Minister of Mass Media and State Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene however clarified that the Military Vehicles were made in Sri Lanka to be sent for UN peacekeeping missions in Mali.

“Lot of speculation on social media about the UN Force being deployed in Sri Lanka. These trucks are made in Sri Lanka for our Peacekeeping Troops deployed in Mali and other countries. No UN Force in Sri Lanka,” Wijewardene tweeted.
