“Current War” set for an October release

(UTV|COLOMBO) –A limited release on October 4th ahead of a wide opening a week later on the 11th has been locked in by 101 Studios for the long-delayed “The Current War” period drama.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Thomas Edison and Michael Shannon as rival George Westinghouse in the story of the race to create a marketable and sustainable electricity system. Edison championed direct current, Westinghouse backed alternating current.

The film was originally set for a Thanksgiving 2017 release via the Weinstein Company before it filed for bankruptcy protection. Since then, and a soft festival debut, the film has undergone a major overhaul in the editing room by director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

Nicholas Hoult, Katherine Waterston, Tom Holland, Matthew Macfadyen and Tuppence Middleton co-star.
