Lanka to send seven athletes for Thailand Open

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka will field a team of seven athletes for the Thailand Open Track & Field Championships which will be held from 18 to 21 of May.

The seven-member team was picked on their recent form at the local meet held recently. All the athletes selected are with less international experience.

The most important fact is these athletes have been overlooked for international competitions in the past and have been given an opportunity to compete against international opposition.

Sri Lanka athletics hope to have a second string pool and this type of meet is expected to enable them to achieve a higher standard in their respective events.

SRI LANKA TEAM: Lakmal Gunaratna (Men’s 400m), Ishara Sandaruwan (Men’s Pole Vault), Roshan Dammika (Men’s 110m Hurdles), Asanka Ratnasena (Men’s 400m Hurdles), Shyama Dulakshi (Women’s 400m hurdles), Sarangi Silva (Women’s Long Jump), Lakshika Sugandi (Women’s Heptathlon). (DN)
