Opposition accused of inciting racism

(UTV|COLOMBO) – General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says certain Opposition politicians are feeding terrorism by inciting sentiments and are hampering day to day activities of the public.

Issuing a communiqué, the Minister said the United National Party has never acted on religious or racial motivations.

Minister Kariyawasam added the objectives of those who misled people by circulating rumours of possible attacks on the 13th of May, have also been proven wrong.

The Minister further said subsequent to such attempts being thwarted, these groups engaged in creating communal violence, noting that Police investigations also revealed that certain groups were behind the unrest on Tuesday night.

Minister Kariyawasam claimed that such attempts would only support efforts of terrorists and condemned all such politically motivated actions.
