Issuing of license for excavations in wild life reserves temporally halted

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The issuing of license for excavations in wild life reserves for sand, rocks, and gravel have been temporally halted taking into consideration the current environmental issue which has arisen.

The director general of the wild life conservation, Anura Hathurusinghe noted that excavations have been conducted where licenses have been obtained privately and through companies.

It has been decided that in the future that a government institute will be making decisions regarding such issues.

The decision has been taken following complaints received about the excavation of sand, gravel and rocks without a proper mechanism in place
