Curfew in North-Western Province to be lifted at 4.00 PM; Re-imposed at 6.00 PM [UPDATE]

(UTV|COLOMBO) – UPDATE: Police curfew in the North-Western Province will be lifted for 2-hours from 4.00 this evening, and re-imposed at 6.00 PM till 6.00 AM on Wednesday (15).

(UTV|COLOMBO) – UPDATE: Sri Lankan Authorities Tuesday (14) lifted an overnight curfew imposed island-wide and in the Gampaha Police Division respectively at 4.00 AM and 6.00 AM.

However, the Police stated that the curfew will remain in place in the North-Western Province until further notice.

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lankan Authorities Monday (13) lifted an overnight curfew in Bingiriya, Chilaw, Dummalasuriya, and Kuliyapitiya Police Divisions where clash erupted between groups of people on Sunday (12).

Police imposed a curfew in the area with immediate effect until 6.00 AM to control the dispute that began on Facebook, turned violent.

Mobs threw stones at Mosques and Muslim-owned stores after residents believed a posting on the social media site was a threat.

The Police said the individual that responsible for the Facebook post had been arrested.
