(UTV|COLOMBO) – Human remains of 31 foreign nationals who died in the coordinated suicide bombings on Easter Sunday (21) have been repatriated to date, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
As at Monday (06), the number of foreign nationals who have been identified as killed is 44, the Foreign Ministry stressed adding that the fatalities were: 1 from Bangladesh, 6 from China, 11 from India (Ten Indian nationals and 1 Sri Lanka Passport holder with Overseas Citizen of India status), 3 from Denmark, 1 from Japan, 1 from the Netherlands, 1 from Portugal, 2 from Saudi Arabia, 2 from Spain, 1 from Switzerland, 2 from Turkey, 6 from the United Kingdom (UK), 1 from the United States (US), 2 holding US and UK nationalities, 1 holding Swiss and Dutch nationalities, 1 holding Dutch and Sri Lankan nationalities, and 2 holding Australian and Sri Lankan nationalities.
Additionally, 10 foreign nationals are unaccounted for at present, and could be among the unidentified victims at the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer (JMO)’s mortuary, the Foreign Ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry further assured that it continues to liaise with the JMO Office and Diplomatic Missions concerned in the identification and repatriation of human remains.
