Dengue forces 3 day closure of 66 schools in Kinniya

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Education authorities of the Eastern Province have taken a decision to close 66 government schools in the Kinniya Education Zone in the Trincomalee district for three days starting from yesterday until tomorrow following the rapidly spreading of Dengue in the Trincomalee district.

All these schools are scheduled to commence on Monday, March 20. It has been reported that several students in the Kinniya education zone had got dengue fever during the past few days. According to Health Ministry sources, the highest number of dengue cases in the Trincomalee district, have been reported from the Kinniya Divisional Secretariat division. Accordingly, a significant number of persons are suffering from dengue fever in the Kinniya Divisional Secretariat division and of them 15 patients have died of dengue fever during the last two weeks.

When contacted an Education Ministry, a spokesman said the Health Ministry pointed out to the education officials that school surroundings were safer than the household environments. (CDN)
