Constable promoted to Police Sergeant

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Police Constable who initially reported suspicious activity at the house in Sainthamaruthu where several explosions were reported has been promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant.

Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the Police Constable was also given a Rs.500,000 reward.

A Police Sergeant and Police Constable who volunteered to aid the Police Constable were also granted Rs.500,000 with a letter of recommendation from the Inspector General of Police.

Three Muslim civilians who also provided the Policemen a tip-off were rewarded Rs.1 million each.

A gunfire exchange between the Police Special Task Force and a group of terrorists were reported during a search operation at a residence in Sainthamaruthu last Saturday.

The group who fired at the forces then detonated several bombs.

Fifteen people including six children who were in the house at the time were killed in the explosions.
