“Enactment of the new Counter Terrorism Bill timely” – Saman Rathnapriya

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Civil Societies and Trade Union Collective says the enactment of the new Counter Terrorism Bill is a timely need.

Convenor of the Collective Saman Rathnapriya said the Bill should be passed in Parliament promptly while certain clauses of the Draft Bill should be amended.

He said following the Easter Sunday attacks, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the government have expressed their willingness to fast-track the enactment of the new Counter Terrorism Bill.

Saman Rathnapriya urged all Members of Parliament to support the move to repeal the Prevention of Terrorism Act and enact the Counter Terrorism Bill.

However Convenor of the Collective Saman Rathnapriya said certain clauses of the proposed Counter Terrorism Bill will thwart the activities of trade unions in the country.

Therefore he urged the MPs to amend such clauses and approve the new Bill.
