Three wheelers ‘on board’ with Burka ban

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The All Island Three-wheeler Drivers’ and Owners’ Association has urged its members to reject those who conceal their identities by wearing full-face veils in their vehicles.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal, Chairman Sudil Jayaruk said Three-wheeler operators must be vigilant of its passengers and also requested members to take additional security measures to aid law enforcement officials.

Jayaruk noted all three wheeler drivers across the island had been instructed to refrain from providing transportation services to passengers who concealed their identities.

He added this was not only an issue of providing transport services but the country’s security.

Jayaruk remarked all three wheeler drivers were informed to be vigilant when persons carried backpacks and asked them to request passengers to reveal their identities and to refrain from providing transportation services especially if passengers were wearing burqas, unless they proved their identity by presenting the National Identity Card following the removal of the burqa.
