FR petition filed over Easter Sunday attacks

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition has been filed before the Supreme Court against President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Secretary of Defence Hemasiri Fernando and the Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara for reportedly failing prevent the Easter Sunday attacks.

UTV Court correspondent said the Fundamental Rights petition filed by Nagananda Kodithuwakku, called for an order instructing the Attorney General to file a case against the group under the Penal Code.

The petition cites the negligence of the group cited in the FR led to the Easter Sunday attacks that claimed the lives of 253 persons.

Nagananda Kodithuwakku in his Fundamental Rights petition also requested the Supreme Court to issue an order demanding those cited in the petition including the President and Prime Minister and several others to compensate those affected by the Easter Sunday attacks with their personal assets.
