No visa fee for foreigners inquiring into wellbeing of loved ones

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Department of Immigration and Emigration has decided to free all foreign nationals arriving in the country to inquire into the wellbeing of the relatives in Sri Lanka, from being charged visa fees.

Member of the Working Committee of the Immigration and Emigration Sanjaya Gunesekera speaking to a prominent online news portal said the 40 USD charged from foreigners for the tourist visa will not be obtained.

However he noted this concession will be provided after their reason of arrival in the country is made known.

Gunesekera said around 20 foreign nationals have arrived in the island to inquire into the wellbeing of their loved one, since the attacks took place on Easter Sunday.

Gunesekera noted all those arriving in the country are being subject to thorough security checks.

Sanjaya Gunesekera said Intelligence Units are constantly being educated on the information the Immigration and Emigration Department receives.
