Reopening of schools and Universities postponed

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The National Security Council has decided to postpone the re-opening of all schools and universities in the island until the 6th of May.

The Security Council headed by the President reached this decision when it convened last evening at the Office of the President.

The Council had also discussed deploying heavy security presence at examination centres.

The Presidents Media Division said the Security Council also approved a new plan to provide broad security to State Institutions, leading hotels and public places.

The Council had also requested all factions to refrain from holding May Day rallies.

The Security Council was informed that several individuals and a significant quantity of explosives which were identified as a threat to national security, have been taken into custody thus far.
