Easter Blasts in Sri Lanka: Social media ban is now in its 3rd day

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Social media networks were blocked in Sri Lanka for a third-day on Tuesday (23) after the Government shut them down in the wake of Sunday’s (21) attacks.

The Government on Sunday cited “False news reports” it said were circulating online when announcing its drastic step.

At least 310 people were killed and hundreds more injured in a series of explosions across Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, one of the most sacred days of the year for Christians.

A series of eight explosions in the island country during Easter celebrations on Sunday targeted Churches, hotels and also an area close to the capital’s Zoological Garden and near Dematagoda, Colombo’s suburb.

Most of the terror attacks were committed in the capital city of Colombo.
