(UTV|COLOMBO) – Film director Roman Polanski has reportedly filed a lawsuit in California against the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group that determines and hands out the Oscars.
The Oscar-winning “The Pianist” and “Rosemary’s Baby” director has demanded reinstatement as an Academy member after he was expelled last May, claiming AMPAS did not follow proper protocol in dismissing him.
At the time of his expulsion, the Academy said it was “in accordance with the organization’s Standards of Conduct”. Polanski’s suit claims the decision “is not supported by the findings, and the Academy’s findings are not supported by evidence.” The suit aims to get the decision reversed.
Suspension or expulsion from the group requires two-thirds approval of the 54-member board of governors.
