“Sri Lanka sees expansion in trade with Pakistan” – Consul General

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Consul General (CG) of Sri Lanka G. L. Gnanatheva said that trade volume with Pakistan would increase in coming years, while he was addressing a meeting held at Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), theazb.com reported.

President KATI Danish Khan, Senior Vice President Faraz-ur-Rehman, Head of KATI’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Masood Naqi, Vice President Maheen Salman and others also expressed their views on the occasion.

Mr. Gnanatheva said that there are a lot of opportunities for Pakistani investor in Sri Lanka especially in the industrial sector of the country. He said that exports to Sri Lanka from Pakistan in pharmaceutical and construction goods were increasing and could be expended more. He told that Sri Lanka wants to revisit the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Pakistan due to some concerns and would be deliberated soon.

President KATI Danish Khan said that Sri Lanka is a friendly country and we have a good trade relation. He urged to explore opportunities of mutual benefits of both countries in trade, business and especially tourism sector. He said that b2b relation should be more strengthen between both countries. He added that reviewed goods list should be shared to explore trade opportunities.

Head of KATIs Standing Committee on Foreign affairs Masood Naqi said that Sri Lanka can provide technical training to Pakistani workforce of textile sector. He said that Sri Lankan institutes can establish their campus in Pakistan.

The CG of Sri Lanka told that, while responding to a question, that India had closed its air space and due to this Sri Lankan flight operation to Pakistan has stopped since weeks. He told that Sri Lanka have reached India on diplomatic level and the issue would be resolved soon.
