Two more arrestees deported from Dubai

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Two more suspects, 48-year-old Mohammad Siddik Mohommad Shiyam and 40-year-old Weerasinghage Lanka Sajitha Perera, who were arrested along with the underworld drug kingpin, ‘Makandure Madush’ in Dubai, deported to Sri Lanka on Monday (01).

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had taken the suspects into custody upon their arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Colombo.

Meanwhile, the infamous ‘Kanjipani Imran’ whose real name is Mohommad Najim Mohammad Imran, and three others who were deported following their arrests along with Madush in Dubai, were taken into the custody of the CID at the BIA on 28 March.

On 27 March, Amal’s son Nadeemal Perera and former Prison Guard K. Lalith Kumara who were arrested in Dubai have also been deported to the country. The CID and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) released Nadeemal after recording a statement from him while Lalith was arrested after handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).

Several public and leading underworld figures were arrested red-handed with Madush in a raid at a hotel in Dubai. A large quantity of drugs was recovered from the suspects in the joint operation by the Dubai Police and Sri Lankan Law Enforcement Authorities.

Madush, who is among Sri Lanka’s most wanted criminals, had been evading arrest for the past couple of years.

The Authorities are now in talks with Dubai to extradite him to Sri Lanka.
