A stock of Beedi Leaves found from Southern Mannar coastal belt

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Thirty three parcels containing 1456.1 kilos of Beedi Leaves have been found floating in the seas off the Southern Mannar coastal belt.

This discovery was made during a search operation engaged in by Navy personnel deployed on a Navy Speed Attack Vessel and a Coast Guard vessel at dawn today.

It is suspected that this stock of Leaves would have been floated on the seas to enable them to be smuggled into this country illegally. The Navy said that this stock of leaves is to be handed over to Customs for further investigations.
