“PC Elections to be held when delimitation is resolved” – Vajira Abeywardena

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Vajira Abeywardena says Provincial Council Elections will be held promptly after delimitation issues are resolved.

Speaking in Parliament the Minister made the statement in reply to a question raised by Opposition MP Ananda Aluthgamage.

The Minister said after 2007 under law delimitation can only be conducted after 5 years, adding however after it was gazetted in 2010 the issue was still not resolved, as the matter was a huge mess.

He stressed as this is a national issue, a national committee has been appointed to look into and resolve the matter promptly.

The Minister stated that PC election will be held soon.

Meanwhile Minister Wajira Abeywardene said Local Authorities will be provided with all necessary facilities by the end of the year.

The Minister made these remarks in response to a question raised by MP Ananda Aluthgamage in parliament today concerning the lack of basic facilities in Local Authorities.
