Seized narcotics stocks to be destroyed publicly on April 1

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Narcotics stocks seized by the local law enforcement authorities, which ended judicial process, would be destroyed publicly on April 1, President Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday.

The President said he had ordered the relevant authorities to destroy narcotics stocks in an open and transparent manner.

The first such instance was when a stock of 928 kilogrammes of cocaine, which were seized during raids by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) was publicly destroyed at the premises of the Katunayake Export Processing Zone in January last year under the supervision of President Maithripala Sirisena.

It was reported that the present narcotics stocks would also be destroyed at the Katunayake Export Processing Zone on April 1.
