Suspect arrested for manufacturing illicit liquor inside a Hingurakgoda school

(UDHAYAM,POLONNARUWA) – An individual who distilled illicit liquor within the premises of a leading school in Hingurakgoda has been arrested by officials of the Excise Department.

A spokesman for the department said that the suspect, who is an employee of the school’s canteen, was arrested by officers of the special operations unit last night (10).

He is said to be a resident of the area.  Meanwhile in a separate operation, police arrested a suspect who was running an illilit liquor distillery in Katuwallegama, Minuwangoda.

Acting on information received, Minuwangoda Police carried out the raid and also seized 101 litres of illicit liquor and 1,890 litres of goda , which is used to manufacture illicit liquor also known as Kasippu.

The 34-year-old suspect is to be produced at the Minuwangoda Magistrate’s Court today (11).
