Police probes killing of 9 Dolphins

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic resources Mahinda Amaraweera has advised the Director General of the Fisheries Department to temporarily ban the fishing license of an individual charged with killing 9 Dolphins.

Issuing a statement, the Fisheries Ministry said the ban will be in effect until a Police investigation into the incident is concluded.

Accordingly, a special investigation is also being conducted by the Ministry of Fisheries. 12 Dolphins restrained with catgut and submerged in the sea were discovered by the Trincomalee Police Anti Corruption Division yesterday (10th Friday).

However, 9 of the 12 Dolphins had died in captivity, while steps were taken by officers to release the remaining three Dolphins. Further investigations are underway.
