Rathgama Murders: Arrested-Law Enforcement Officers to produce before Court

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Seven Police Officers and a Forest Reserve Officer, who were arrested on Monday (18) over the murders of the two businessmen of Rathgama, are due to be produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the Police Officers and the Forest Reserve Officer following lengthy questioning over murders.

Currently, six Police Officers including the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Police Special Investigations Unit of the Southern Province and a Ranger of the Forest Reserve where the bodies were found are in remand custody in connection with the deaths of two businessmen, 33-year-old Manjula Asela and 31-year-old Rasen Chinthaka who were abducted from the residence of Asela by a group of individuals dressed in uniforms similar to that of the Police Officers.

The investigations conducted by the CID have revealed that the two missing businessmen were murdered in Akmeemana and their remains were burned at Medagangoda Forest Reserve in Walasmulla.
