“Forrest Gump” getting a Bollywood remake

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Indian superstar Aamir Khan is set to lead “Lal Singh Chadha,” a Bollywood remake of the Tom Hanks-led, Oscar-winning classic “Forrest Gump” for Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan Films.

Speaking at a media event in Mumbai, Khan says: “We have bought the rights from Paramount. I have always loved Forrest Gump as a script. It is a wonderful story about this character. It is a feel-good film. It is a film for the whole family.”

The Hindi-language film will be directed by Advait Chandan (“Secret Superstar”) and filming begins later this year. Robert Zemeckis helmed 1994 original which won six Oscars including Best Picture.

The announcement follows on from other recent Bollywood remakes of Hollywood films including ones based on “Chef,” “Knight and Day,” and a just wrapped filming spin on “The Fault in Our Stars”.
