SLMC to file a petition opposing SAITM

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) is due to file a petition at the Supreme Court today in objection of the Appeals Court decision pertaining to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).

Registrar of the SLMC Dr. Terrance de Silva said the petition will be filed following legal advice provided to the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

The Court of Appeal determined that students who obtain their medical degree at SAITM are eligible to register with the Sri Lanka Medical Council following a writ petition filed by a student of SAITM.

Accordingly, the Appeals Court said SAITM has been given the legal provision to award degrees according to the Acts of the University Grants Commission and the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
