The President instructs police to launch an investigation into gangs extorting money from buses

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena has stated that, during the course of his political career he had not called the police for the purpose of discussing matters relating to offenders.

The President said that his aim as the Minister in charge  is to establish a  police force that works to implement the law in a fair and just manner.

The President made the statement at the Presidential secretariat yesterday, where a meeting was held to discuss challenges faced by the police force and the next line of action to be taken .

During the meeting attention was drawn to reports received regarding extortion occurring in intercity buses.

The President instructed police deal with the matter without delay by implementing action to bring an end to the issue.
