Kandy SC crowned 2018/19 Inter-Club Rugby Champions

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Defending Champions Kandy Sports Club clinched the 2018/19 Inter-Club ‘A’ Division Rugby League Tournament after beating Havelock Sports Club by 21-19 in the final encounter at the Havelock Park this evening.

Despite topping the points table heading into the final week, Havelocks failed to capitalize on the home advantage in the last game of the tournament.

Kandy decorated the park with two tries but the hosts left it too late to overcome a spirited visiting side led by Richard Dharmapala.

Havies scored a valiant try at the last whistle but conceding multiple penalties in the first half ultimately decided the game in favour of the glamour boys of local rugby.

At half time Kandy led 18-00.

With the pulsating win, Kandy finished the season with 80 points which included 13 wins while Havelocks managed to accumulated 78 points to be adjudged runners-up in the 2018/19 Inter-Club ‘A’ Division Rugby League Tournament.

CH & FC finished the season in third place.
