Murder of 2 Missing Businessmen: Overseas travel ban imposed on five Policemen

(UTV|COLOMBO) – An overseas travel ban has been imposed on five Police Officers who have been evading arrest following the abduction and murder of two missing businessmen from Bossa – Rathgama.

The investigations conducted by the CID have revealed that the two missing businessmen, 33-year-old Manjula Asela and 31-year-old Rasen Chinthaka were abducted from the residence of Asela last month by a group of individuals dressed in uniforms similar to that of the Police Officers.

Two businessmen were murdered in Akmeemana and their remains were burned at Medagangoda Forest Reserve in Walasmulla, the investigations later revealed.

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Southern Province Special Crime Investigation Unit along with fifteen other Police Officers were ordered to be transferred on 22 February, while a Police Inspector (IP) and a Sub Inspector (SI) attached to the same Unit were remanded over the incident.

However, five Police Officers who were ordered to be transferred had failed to report for duty after the transfer.
