Residents return to long lost village seeking refuge

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A group of 30 residents whose properties were drowned due to the Moragahakanda Reservoir has returned to their village in Elagamuwa area, Naula.

Even though the Mahaweli Authority took steps to evacuate families due to this project, it had failed to provide the promised compensation to affected sub families. The male members of these families returned to the village, Udhayam Correspondent said.

It is reported that this group is remaining in the area, cooking their own food in the open, till officials provide a solution to their issues.
