(UTV|COLOMBO) – The United National Front (UNF) has decided not to put forward its proposal to form a National Government to Parliament on Thursday (07) as previously planned.

During a meeting held Wednesday night (06), the UNF had decided not to discuss the matter today and postponed until further notice.

President Maithripala Sirisena also emphasised that he is not in favour of forming a National Government.

“I see the proposal about a National Government in the media,” the President stated during his Independence Day address to the Nation on Monday (04), adding that “It is necessary to ask how ethical is to claim the formation of a National Government by joining with a political party which has only a single Member of Parliament (MP).

“I only see that as an attempt to increase the number of Ministers and increase in the facilities of the Ministers and MPs,” he stressed.

Therefore, “I strongly disagree to the idea of proposed National Government,” President Sirisena said.
